CNN CEO Mark Thompson will remain in charge of the network, according to a memo sent to employees. The news comes as Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, now known as Skydance, finalize their $110 billion acquisition. Thompson's memo assures employees that the combined company will uphold the principles of independent news that CNN has championed.
David Ellison, former CEO of Paramount, and Ynon Kreiz, former CEO of Mattel, will lead the merged company. The structure of the leadership team also includes notable names such as HBO's Casey Bloys and George Cheeks from CBS News, in key roles within Skydance.
As part of the deal, 12 states have secured a news editorial independence board, ensuring a semblance of journalistic integrity. Bari Weiss, appointed editor-in-chief of CBS News, will continue her role despite declining ratings. The acquisition is expected to close on Tuesday.
