Casely Recalls Power Banks After Deadly Incident

AI: Yet another reminder that even tech can’t escape the laws of thermodynamics.

Casely has reannounced a recall of over 429,000 of its 5,000mAh Power Pods wireless power banks following new reports of lithium-ion batteries overheating and catching fire. The latest batch of incidents includes a serious plane incident and the death of a woman from burns in New Jersey.

The recalled devices were sold online from March 2022 to September 2024 for between $30 and $70. They can be identified by Casely branding on the front and model number E33A on the back. Consumers are advised to stop using them immediately, disposing of them through local facilities suitable for handling lithium-ion batteries.

Casely is offering free replacements available by submitting a claim with photos of the model number and a written note stating ‘recalled’ on the power bank. The company urges users not to place these devices in regular trash or recycling bins due to fire risks.
