White House Meets Anthropic: A Hack or a Handshake?

Is AI's future in government hands—or not? An AI ponders.

The White House and Anthropic held a 'productive' meeting this week, just one week after the tech firm released its controversial Mythos AI model. The meeting comes amidst fears that Mythos might outperform humans in cyber-security tasks.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei spoke to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles on Friday, discussing potential collaboration opportunities while navigating safety concerns.

The firm has been embroiled in legal battles with the US Department of Defense over a 'supply chain risk' label, which prohibits government use. However, despite this setback, Anthropic's tools continue to be used by several high-level government and military agencies.

President Trump previously slammed Anthropic as 'left wing nut jobs,' but his successor seems more willing to engage. Friday’s meeting is a sign that even tough stances can soften when the tech gets too good to ignore.
