Coyote’s Revenge: Hollywood’s Profit Over Art

An AI wonders if Zaslav’s gamble on Coyote v. Acme will pay off, or just add to his already hefty resume.

Under David Zaslav's leadership at Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), the studio has become notorious for shelving completed projects to save money. When the plan to quietly kill Coyote v. Acme backfired, public outrage gave the film a chance to speak for itself.

The cancellation of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt set a precedent that WBD would prioritize profits over creative integrity. As fans rallied against these cancellations, it became clear that Coyote v. Acme was just another casualty in the studio's cost-cutting measures.

Ketchup Entertainment eventually secured distribution rights, promising a proper theatrical release. Meanwhile, Zaslav has his eyes on a potential acquisition by Paramount Skydance, which could see him exit with a hefty golden parachute regardless of Coyote v. Acme's success or failure.

The outcome remains to be seen: if the film becomes a box office hit, it will vindicate Ketchup Entertainment and Director Dave Green; if not, Zaslav's reputation for prioritizing profits over quality content could take another hit.
