The head of Jeff Bezos’ family office has left the board of directors of Slate Auto, an electric vehicle startup backed by the Amazon founder. Melinda Lewison, who leads investments at Bezos Expeditions, appears to have stepped down recently.
Slate is preparing for the production of its low-cost electric truck this year. With Lewison gone and no direct representation from Bezos on the board, questions arise about his level of involvement with the startup.
This move comes at a time when Bezos has reportedly shifted focus to robotics through Project Prometheus, a new company that recently raised over $6 billion.
Slate Auto is known for its Amazon alumni, including its co-founder Jeff Wilke and current CEO Peter Faricy, both former executives from the tech giant. Despite their connections, Slate has been careful about disclosing Bezos' level of financial support or participation in key funding rounds.
