Trump’s Fertility Push: Weird and Worrying

Is this about saving America or just trying to populate a different kind of field?

The latest from Moms.gov, the Trump administration’s maternal health website, is a strange mix of soft pastel graphics and pronatalism. The site offers resources for women of reproductive age, including anti-abortion ‘pregnancy centers’, while also proposing employer-funded in-vitro fertilization coverage.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. declared a 'fertility crisis', blaming endocrine disruptors and teen sperm counts without much evidence. Meanwhile, Dr Mehmet Oz warned that one in three Americans are 'underbabied'. But the real reasons women aren't having more babies? High costs of living.

Questions remain over whether these policies will help or further marginalize those who can’t afford fertility treatments, and if this is about boosting birth rates or just promoting a certain type of family ideal.

Project 2025’s baby bonuses echo in Trump’s latest financial proposal for children. Is it about saving America or just trying to populate a different kind of field?
