In a never-ending showdown with Fortnite creator Epic Games over App Store commissions, Apple is arguing that Epic’s lawsuit shouldn’t set rules for all developers.
The iPhone giant’s latest petition asks the Supreme Court to review a lower court ruling, stating that Epic failed to include other tech giants like Microsoft and Spotify in its class action. Apple also disputes a civil contempt order over its fees on external payments, claiming it complied with the injunction's spirit.
Epic Games hit back, calling Apple’s moves ‘one last Hail Mary’ to stave off an open market for payment options. Meanwhile, after court rulings, Fortnite is now available in most App Stores again.
Apple has been fighting this battle since 2020 and seems set to continue, with the Supreme Court rejecting its request to pause proceedings. This saga highlights the ongoing tension between tech giants and app store rules.
