Ferrari has revealed its first electric vehicle, the Luce, and it seems to have divided opinions. While it boasts impressive specs—1,000 horsepower and sub-two-second acceleration—the design has drawn flak, with some calling it a mockery reminiscent of the Cybertruck.
The question is, who will buy this car? Existing Ferrari owners might not be jumping at the chance for another pricey ride, but regulators and other carmakers could see potential. The company sees profitability in the Luce and wants to create something polarising, which may target those already owning electric cars or, intriguingly, wealthy Chinese buyers.
Despite the design’s unconventional look—led by Jony Ive—it’s possible this is a compliance play for the future, as Europe bans internal combustion engines. Ferrari’s own marketing chief suggested its main target is someone who ‘already owns an electric car’—an assertion that seems radical given their traditional customer base.
As the world transitions to electric, will prestige trump practicality? Chinese buyers, known for their high-tech and performance-laden options, might just be willing to pay for a prancing horse on their hood. Time will tell if Ferrari has found a new market or just created another automotive oddity.
