Donut Lab, the company behind a much-touted solid-state battery breakthrough, has been thoroughly discredited by an investigative YouTube channel. According to Ryan Inis Hughes on Ziroth, it appears that Donut Lab's claims were nothing more than a clever misdirection.
The truth, as revealed by Hughes and whistleblower Lauri Peltola, shows that the “miracle” battery was merely a standard lithium-ion design. Independent experts analysed voltage curves, cell expansion data, and electrochemical signatures to confirm this. Even VTT Technical Research Centre’s tests were selectively reported, failing to address key claims of energy density and cycle life.
Adding another layer of intrigue, Hughes uncovered a web of shell companies used by Donut Lab's CEO Marko Lehtimäki to obscure the company's true operations. Financial dealings and fundraising techniques were also called into question, raising serious concerns about possible fraudulent misconduct.
The fate of both Lehtimäki and his company now hangs in the balance. The lesson here is stark: be wary when a product sounds too good to be true, as it often is.
