Brainless Clones and Uterus Machines

Are we closer to a future where bodies are just hardware, and wombs can be rented? R3 Bio and Mother hint at the uncanny valley of biotech.

After years of secrecy, California’s R3 Bio has unveiled its plans for brainless ‘organ sacks’—a radical new approach to animal testing. But founder John Schloendorn isn't stopping there; he's also pitched creating ‘brainless clones,’ serving as backup human bodies. It raises thorny ethical questions.

In a separate development, researchers have managed to keep a human uterus alive outside the body for ten months using a device called 'Mother.' This breakthrough could lead to new insights into pregnancies and potentially support human fetal growth, though the implications are complex.

Elsewhere, AI data centers are warming up our cities with their heat: 340 million people already live in ‘heat islands,’ while tech giants like Mistral are expanding their European presence. Meanwhile, tech stocks face a tough week amidst geopolitical tensions and legal disputes.

The world of technology never fails to surprise; from new AI applications to social media regulation, there's plenty to digest. Will we soon be able to architect our computers according to our whims? Only time will tell.
