It took mere hours after South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham's death for baseless theories to swirl across social media. From Iran and Russia, to Mossad and a mysterious poison, extremists were quick to suggest foul play.
CNN reported there was no suspicion of foul play, but conspiracy theorists pounced, with Laura Loomer suggesting his demise was linked to recent Iranian threats against Americans.
Political commentator Marc Thiessen pointed the finger at Russia, citing Graham's support for Ukraine. Even former CIA contractor Tony Seruga chimed in, questioning the official cause of death.
Theories kept coming: Alex Jones suggested Graham died on a visit to a Ukrainian drone factory bombed by Russia, while Putin adviser Alexander Dugin linked the death to a renewed war with Iran.
As the dust settles, one wonders if we're destined to always suspect something sinister behind every passing of a public figure.
