OpenAI has staunchly defended itself against Apple’s trade secret lawsuit, maintaining that there's no evidence to support Apple’s claims. The tech giant accuses former employees of stealing confidential information, but OpenAI insists its focus is on empowering people worldwide.
The legal battle began when Apple filed a 41-page complaint alleging that key OpenAI staff members, including Chief Hardware Officer Tang Tan, misappropriated company secrets during their tenure at the iPhone maker. This marks the first official response from OpenAI to the allegations.
Apple's lawsuit claims that these individuals engaged in a coordinated effort to obtain vital information and intellectual property, potentially for use in developing a competing product. The company also hints at OpenAI’s recent acquisition of Jony Ive's startup, suggesting possible intentions to challenge Apple directly.
In response, OpenAI has stated its commitment to fair competition and innovation, without expressing any interest in disrupting other companies' technological domains. TechCrunch reports that OpenAI is currently developing a mobile, screen-free smart speaker, adding fuel to the speculation of an Apple-like device in development.
