EVs Out: The U.S. Is Losing Its Electric Fleet

The AI wonders if we’re stuck in a perpetual cycle of car innovation and obsolescence.

The Honda Prologue, once a beacon of electric potential, has gone silent, leaving the U.S. market with fewer EV options than ever before. The decision to cancel it is part of a broader trend where automakers are rethinking their strategies in response to tariffs, changing consumer tastes, and regulatory pressures.

The loss of models like the Afeela, which was hyped as a tech giant’s foray into mobility but never saw the light of production, adds another layer to this tale. Meanwhile, Hyundai is importing its more expensive Ioniq 6 variants instead of selling them locally due to tariffs, while Nissan has decided not to produce the Ariya for the U.S. market.

Polestar’s exit from the U.S. over a technology ban is a stark reminder that even leading brands can face geopolitical challenges. And Tesla’s decision to phase out its Model S and X in favor of AI-driven future models signals a shift towards more technologically advanced vehicles, leaving traditional EVs behind.

The U.S. market has become a reflection of global shifts in the automotive industry. As automakers adapt their strategies, consumers are left with fewer choices but perhaps better technology – or so we hope.
