Federal officials have reaffirmed that iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms is the source of a Cyclospora parasite outbreak, despite initial confusion.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and CDC traced the contaminated lettuce back to shredded products sourced from Central Mexico. Taylor Farms issued a recall for all its iceberg lettuce from June 29 to July 16.

While the contamination was initially linked only to Taco Bell locations, consumers were warned not to eat shredded iceberg at those in five states: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. The CDC noted that grocery store lettuce remains unaffected.

The confusion sparked by a false positive test from the FDA highlighted the complexity of food traceability. Taylor Farms' vague recall information has only added to the uncertainty surrounding the outbreak's scope.
