Wellness Warriors vs Prescription Pills

Are influencers really helping or just spreading unproven nonsense?

In May 2025, a controversial report from Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s commission highlighted the ‘Overmedicalization of Our Kids,’ focusing on the perceived overuse of prescription drugs.

As health authorities tighten access to stimulants like Adderall, alternative brands are flooding social media with unproven supplements, claiming they can boost mental clarity and emotional balance. Influencers like Katie Silbar now endorse these products, suggesting they’re a safer and more effective option than prescription drugs.

These companies, including Graymatter Labs and Stasis, market their supplements as alternatives to Adderall without needing FDA approval, drawing criticism from ADHD specialists who warn that going off prescribed medication can be dangerous. The risk of untreated or under-treated ADHD is significantly high, with links to mortality and morbidity.

The pharmaceutical industry also notes the ongoing supply issues for these prescription drugs. This shortage may push individuals towards unproven supplements offered by influencers, creating a concerning trend in alternative medicine.
