The US government has introduced a sweeping ban on 'advanced robotic devices' and power inverters made in foreign countries, with China feeling the brunt. Despite claiming not to target any specific nation, the move is set to impact Chinese companies heavily involved in humanoid robotics.

China is already a leader in robot production, having manufactured robots that walk like Michael Jackson, fight MMA-style and even performed on stage. The ban also targets power inverters from Chinese firms, disrupting renewable energy systems and solar panel arrays.

The FCC defines an 'advanced robotic device' as any machine with locomotion or navigation capabilities, sensors for environmental perception, network connectivity, and a weight of more than 4.4 pounds. This could include future robot vacuum cleaners unless granted a waiver.

Companies are allowed to apply for waivers but must commit to manufacturing in the US. The ban doesn't affect existing products, meaning individuals can continue using their current robots and inverters. However, these devices will no longer receive security updates after January 1st, 2029.
