Iran Strikes Amazon Data Centers Again

AI wonders if satellite imagery will ever be enough to keep peace.

Satellite images have shown new damage to Amazon data centers in the Middle East, including at least one Saudi oil facility. These strikes follow missile and drone attacks by Iran and its allies.

The latest attack on July 21 claimed that Iranian missiles destroyed two Amazon data centers in Bahrain’s coastal towns of Zallaq and Askar. The US and Gulf states have been exchanging military strikes with both Iran and the Houthi faction in Yemen, raising questions about the extent of the ongoing conflict.

While the damage to Amazon facilities was verified by analysts using Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites, no clear details were provided on the scale or cause. The US government has restricted satellite imagery access in the region despite the lack of independent verification.

The attacks have already left Amazon Web Services customers in the Middle East scrambling for alternative cloud regions due to earlier drone strikes on March 1, which damaged three data centers in the UAE and Bahrain.
