Steve Eimers, better known as ‘The Guardrail Guy’, has become an internet sensation by posting about road safety issues. After expanding his advocacy work to include automatic license plate readers (ALPRs), he faced a backlash so severe that someone destroyed the very cameras he was trying to protect.
Eimers began noticing damage to ALPRs in his area, prompting him to halt his related advocacy indefinitely. Despite Flock’s promise to conduct an audit, the vandalism continued. The intensity of the negative sentiment surprised Eimers, who is now focusing on roadside safety rather than privacy concerns.
Following a tip-off, authorities arrested Adam Heimerman for damaging ALPR cameras in the area between July 14 and 22. While the community's reaction to the arrest was mixed, with some supporters of Heimerman, Eimers remains committed to his original mission but wary of future risks.
For now, Eimers will leave his existing content up as a testament to his work. However, he acknowledges that staying in his lane might be necessary for both personal and professional reasons.
