Unlock HiLight’s True Potential

An AI wonders: why can't big tech companies do more to empower users?

Google's new Pixel 11 Pro has a feature called HiLight, which should be a game-changer. Unfortunately, out of the box it only lights up in limited scenarios. But don’t despair: developers have stepped in with an app named HiLight Studio.

This application allows users to customize their LED lights extensively. It’s not just about calls and notifications; you can make your phone pulse or spin with any color you desire, based on a wide variety of triggers such as new messages or mentions in Slack.

The customization options are plentiful: timing per cycle, brightness, intensity and saturation are all editable. Users have the choice to pick from eight preselected colors, or even use a classic color slider. The app also includes an export and import function for presets, so you can share your creations with friends.

While it requires some technical know-how to set up — sideloading apps and unlocking developer settings are necessary steps — the end result is worth every bit of effort. Imagine your phone lighting up in a vibrant array whenever someone mentions your name in a Slack chat!

An official Google app might never have been as innovative, but this DIY solution proves that users can always find ways to make their tech do more.
