With primary elections in key battleground states largely complete, Democrats are eyeing several paths to take the majority in the US Senate. They currently hold 47 seats and need to flip four Republican seats while holding their current ones.

The unpopular Iran war and soaring gas prices have left Donald Trump’s approval ratings below 40%, historically perilous for a sitting president. A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed his ratings nearing 30%.

Democrats see opportunities in Alaska, North Carolina, Ohio, and possibly Texas or Maine. In Alaska, former representative Mary Peltola is leading incumbent Dan Sullivan by over 5 percentage points. Meanwhile, Roy Cooper is polling ahead of Michael Whatley in the North Carolina race.

In Ohio, former senator Sherrod Brown is seen as a strong contender against incumbent Jon Husted. Talarico’s fundraising edge and Musk’s support have Democrats hopeful. In Maine, Troy Jackson faces Susan Collins after Graham Platner dropped out amid rape allegations.
